What we have already done

So far we have provided a new Park and Ride site at Cardif East, and are in the process of completing the pedestrian friendly areas of the city..
We are working to make walking and cycling better and more enjoyable by providing the right surroundings and quality choices for the people who live in, work in and visit our beautiful city.

These include:

• Making access easier for cycling across the City and Bay.
• Our Smarter Choices programme - which is helping to encourage everyone to rethink the way they travel in and around the city and helping them to become ‘smart travellers’.

Our Smarter Choice initiatives include:

• Travel Plans to help employers and employees rethink commuting and work related travel.
• Journey Sharing - an option available to employers and employees to help people share the journey to work, save money and cut the numbers of single occupancy cars on our roads at peak times. www.share2cardiff.com | www.sewtacarshare.com
• A Car Club scheme – which cuts the need to own a second or even a first vehicle.
• The Cardiff Bike Scheme – a pilot scheme which ran until 23rd December 2011 and provided people with the opportunity to cycle without needing to buy or store a bike. Work to evaluate the pilot and decide on the way forward for a replacement scheme is now underway.
• Creating opportunities for everyone to become Travel Aware by making sure that they have the right information at the right time for their journey.

Cardiff is also working with other organisations to make sure that everyone is considered when decisions are made about our transport system.
