In March 2009 Welsh Government announced that Cardiff would be Wales’ first Sustainable Travel City (STC) and a pathfinder scheme for the wider Sustainable Travel Town initiative planned for Wales. The Sustainable Travel City initiative aims to encourage as many people as possible to use active or sustainable transport for everyday trips.
The transport strategy for Cardiff is set out in the Regional Transport Plan (RTP) for the South East Transport Alliance (Sewta). This is a consortium of 10 local authorities responsible for preparing and co-ordinating regional transport policies, plans and programmes on behalf of its constituent councils.
