Planning Your Journey

We’re improving the city as a place to walk by widening footways, putting in more (and more convenient) road crossings, slowing the traffic, reducing street clutter and creating pedestrian friendly environments in the city centre.

Cardiff boasts many green spaces and a growing number of traffic free walking routes – use these as part of your commute or just for leisure.

  • Cardiff Parks cardiff.gov.uk/parks
  • The Rhymney Trail runs for 3.5km connecting the areas of Rhymney and Llanrumney in the east with Llanedyrn and Pentwyn in the west, via Rhymney Hill Gardens.
  • The Ely Trail links St Fagans to the International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay, where it connects to the Bay Trail.
  • The Bay Trail is a circular 10K trail which takes in the bay attractions via Pont y Werin and the barrage.
  • The Nant Fawr trail provides a very pleasant walk, connecting Waterloo gardens in the south with the Ridgeway Walk in the north.
  • And of course, the historic Taff Trail runs north to south along the banks of the river Taff, linking Cardiff Bay, the city centre, Bute Park and more. The Taff Trail, runs 89km in total ending eventually in the heart of Brecon.
