Bus
Buses are likely to make the biggest difference in achieving a shift from car use to more sustainable travel. Improvements to bus services and facilities are, therefore, critical to the strategy’s success. We want to encourage more people to use buses to help reduce congestion and pollution and improve safety and access to service and facilities.
To do this we need easily accessible, clean, comfortable, reliable, frequent, safe and affordable buses that meet local needs. Bus journeys should be well co-ordinated with other bus services and other types of transport. Buses should also be able to move around more freely than the private car if they are to become a real and attractive alternative for people to use.
A Core Bus Network is being introduced along Cardiff’s main radial routes and within the City Centre, providing faster and more reliable bus services through a number of bus ‘priority measures’. These give buses priority on some of Cardiff’s most congested roads. Measures include the introduction of bus lanes and technology to give buses priority at junctions.
