Hire a Bike with the Cardiff Bike Scheme!

Cardiff residents and visitors who register with the Cardiff Bike Scheme can hire a bike from bike stations in 10 locations in Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Bay. Whether you want to take a trip on the Taff Trail or pick up a bike after arriving at Central Station, hiring a Cardiff Bike is an easy and low-cost option. 70 bikes are available and can be picked up and returned to any of the bike stations in the city, so there’s no need to return your bike to the same spot. 

Registering to use a Cardiff Bike

The scheme is run by OYBikes Ltd and users will need to register at www.oybike.com or by calling 0845 226 5751 before picking up a bike at one of the multi-lingual bike rental stations. You’ll be asked for your name and address, a mobile phone number, an email address and a credit card number. Once you’ve registered, hiring a bike is easy:

1. Switch on the rental station and choose the "Rent a Bike" option
2. When the screen shows the message "Ring this Number or swipe a card", telephone the number given with your registered mobile phone
3. When your registered mobile number has been checked, if bikes are available to hire from the rental station, the display will show green round symbols. Choose the bike number you want to hire (1, 2 or 3) and press the numeric key to release your bike
4. The display will show the message "pull cable now" and the bike will released from its lock
5. The combination lock number for your bike will be shown in the final ‘thank you’ screen.

Annual registration for OYBikes is £18, or you can register for a week for just £5. The first 30 minutes of every hire are free, after which there is a small hourly rental charge – hiring a bike for a full day (24 hours) will only cost you £5! Once you are registered with OYBikes, you can hire bikes from any OYBikes scheme – including London, Reading and Cambridge - as well as in Cardiff.
