Walk
An increase in levels of walking is critical to the success of Cardiff’s transport strategy. We want safe, convenient and attractive routes for pedestrians to make walking a real alternative to the car for many short journeys, and particularly, for journeys to work and school.
This will help reduce car use, congestion and air pollution, and improve accessibility, making Cardiff a safer and more pleasant place to live. The increase in physical activity through walking will also improve people’s health.
Cardiff’s transport strategy for walking includes pedestrian improvement schemes, road safety improvement schemes, road safety improvements including safe routes to schools and development of recreational walks including a heritage walk for Cardiff and development of Rhymney and Ely Trails.
walk: planning your journey
Cardiff has many off-road routes, including the Taff Trail, a mainly off-road cycle and footpath which runs 89km from Cardiff to Brecon.
