The provision of on-street cycle hire in the city has been part of the Council’s Sustainable Travel City Programme from the start and complements the investment being made by Cardiff Council to improve the cycle network, its infrastructure and to make cycling more attractive for commuting.

On-street cycle hire has been provided by OYBike Ltd as a pilot for Cardiff and has been in place now for over two years. This scheme has certainly helped to raise awareness among the public that cycling is a good way to get around the city. The scheme has grown in popularity during this time to reach an average of over 40 bikes used in the city every day.

Unfortunately OYBike has decided not to continue with their operation in Cardiff for its final year. The Council has already begun work to investigate how it can provide a replacement scheme so that residents, commuters and visitors to Cardiff can still have easy access to 24/7 on-street cycle hire. Progress towards a new scheme will be updated in due course.
