20mph Pilot Scheme

From Monday 31st March, Cardiff Council will pilot a 20mph speed limit in Cathays and Plasnewydd.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

From 31st March, the legal speed limit will be reduced to 20mph on all of the roads within the pilot boundary.

Cardiff Council will be holding an event on Sunday 30th March to celebrate the launch of the scheme. Find out more about it here.

WHY 20MPH?

20mph speed limits reduce risk to vulnerable road users and make it easier for people to use healthier and more sustainable modes of transport.

Neighbourhoods with lower traffic speeds can also benefit from an improved social environment, with easier road crossing and safer conditions for children to play.

WHAT DO THE PEOPLE SAY?

A preliminary period of public consultation was held in July and August 2013, finding strong support for reduced speed limits in Cardiff. A report on the consultation was issued in September 2013 and available to view here.
